Oops I really hate when I get busy and forget to blog, so i'll try to make this short and sweet since it's technically not my day and Sam will be here shortly with Trailer Trash Tuesday. (sorry for intruding Sam)

Next week I have a new book coming out and it is the kick off for a new series of short and kinky stories from Phaze Books. The series is called Purgatory and is a direct tribute to my favorite local fetish show by the same name that will be shutting down in April.

I only just discovered Purgatory a couple of years ago and am so sad to see it go. It's been a fabulous source of inspiration as well of a lot of fun to go to. I've seen things from the sexy side of Kink to the outrageous and sometimes shocking world of the alternative and honestly, loved every minute of it. I've learned a lot and have a healthy respect for a place that allows people to be who they need to be without having to hide it.

I needed some inspiration for writing this week and Purg offered it up in spades. So after a week of no writing at all, Sunday I began writing a new naughty little story and it's coming along rather quickly. No idea what I am going to do with it yet but it's fun to write and right now that is all that really matters.

The story coming out next week is a rope bondage story and was inspired by this photo:

While I had a general idea of the next couple of stories in this series, I sought details along with my fun and the play stations in the VIP area are VERY educational. Nothing I hadn't already seen before but watching others emotions and reactions is in a word priceless. And yep over the years I have discovered that I can be a big ole voyeur. LOL

I waited most of the night for my favorite dancer because I knew I wanted to use him as inspiration for my next story and he didn't disappoint. I affectionately call him the boy toy and can't wait to write the story I envision for him.

One of the last things I did before I left the club was hit the vendors. You see Lissa and I both have new releases next week with Phaze and we are brewing up a fun little contest and what's a contest without great prizes.

So I bought a beautiful purple suede flogger that some lucky reader can win next week. Hope you'll stay tuned for that one because I like it so much i'd like ...

Name That Tune…

When I write a book I like to create a playlist for it. Sometimes it serves as the catalyst for getting into the story when I am just not feeling it on my own.

The last couple I wrote without any music but with the task of writing the 3rd in the Black Cougar series in a couple of weeks, I have recognized the folly of not creating a playlist for this series.

Here's where it gets tricky for me. I am the absolute worst at identifying a song by its artist or title. I can recognize a song I like but a few bars of it's music or a few lyrics but if you were to ask me for a title or an artist I would likely draw a blank.

So...I need your help. I need some recommendations. The cougars are set in the mountains of North Carolina and my first inclination was to look for some southern rock. And I likely will include some. But I don't just want a playlist of old classic rock songs. I need some variety. I have three brothers that would have varied tastes and so I need a combination of rock, classic rock and some slow songs too.

I hope you will have some ideas.

The Internet Over Sex???

GASP! Really?

A new survey reported on CNN.com last week boldly states that nearly half the women polled would give up sex for two weeks before they would give up their internet.

Hmmm...

This does not compute and the article doesn't give me nearly enough information to take this seriously. At first glance i'm like "Oh no please don't ask me to give up my internet." But when forced to think about it, I would so rather have really hot sex than surf the net. Sorry my friends...

Did you catch the qualifier in that statement though? "Hot Sex" Yeah ladies that's what I was wondering about when I saw this survey. How many of these women not willing to give up the internet for sex are enjoying hot, sweaty satisfying sex?

These journalists throw out attention grabbing headlines and survey results to make us sit up an notice but did anyone ask these women about their sex lives first? I want to know how many respondents are happy with theirs. Cause let's face it, if we either aren't happy with the sex we are getting or are not in a place to even be getting any, a good lot of us would say "I'll take the internet please."

But where do these wild questions come from in the first place? Can't I have my HOT sex and my internetz?

I say YES I CAN! hehe

Judging A Book

What do you do when you read a book that for you is so bad that it really makes you angry? Have you ever had that happen?

I am currently reading a book that did just that and this is a new experience for me. Sure I have read books I didn't like and more than a few I didn't finish but never one that made me so angry I have half a mind to write not only the publisher but the author and believe me I don't take that lightly.

As an author it would likely break my heart to receive a scathing email about how much someone hated my book although it's bound to happen some day because I think even the most popular authors will write a book that not everyone likes. So i'm hesitant to go there.

Maybe I should tell you what it is that is bothering me because it might not be what you think. No, I won't reveal the book here because I disagree completely with trashing a book publicly and besides I am no reviewer. Right now I am just a reader who is offended.

The genre of said romance book is Contemporary BDSM. I read a lot in this genre as well as write it and generally enjoy it. I have read some authors take on BDSM and disagreed with it but like so many things in life I can admit that the lifestyle is definitely not one size fits all. So while I wholeheartedly disagree with the prevalent use of a submissive calling her new Dom Master from the moment they meet apparently it works for most since its very common in the genre. (my opinion, and take that with a grain of salt for sure, is that the title Master should be earned. It's overuse takes away from how much it should mean in the lifestyle. Sir is good, embrace it, most Doms do)

Oops let me get back off that soap box that I didn't mean to jump on...

But here comes another.

Safe, Sane and Consensual. If you read the genre i'm sure you've heard that more than once and that's a good thing. And this is where this book took a wrong turn. It preaches that very saying yet when it comes time for the women to engage in BDSM play the consensual piece went missing. Anyone who gives consent just after a traumatic event and who is need of care and assistance is not thinking in their right mind. THIS IS NOT CONSENSUAL. IT'S IRRESPONSIBLE AT BEST AND COULD BE CONSTRUED AS ASSAULT AT WORST.

I can put aside the whiplash I feel from the constant and frequent POV changes in the book (been there, done that and learned the hard way) but am having an issue letting go of the responsibility issue.

Yep that's me. Take a little vacation and everything around you goes to hell and a handbasket. lol Actually it's not that bad, i'm being a little dramatic.

But A few strange things did happen while I was gone (pipes burst, kids got sick, etc.) and since i've been home it's been a little crazy. What's that thing that people say about taking a vacation from the vacation? lol

Anyways...

Christmas Funnies

It's three days until Christmas and my little world isn't doing so great. I'm not sure why bad things seem to happen at Christmas time but they do. I have nothing cute and clever to say today so before I start crying on your shoulder let me try something else. Humor has a way of turning things around. Back away from the edits!!!

I woke up this morning after 20 straight days of revisions and edits with the plan of working for the day job, searching for my christmas spirit through wrapping presents and baking cookies, finishing up some tiny little edits on a novella and the dreaded trip to the post office. This week after all needs to be devoted to the holidays and some plotting on two stories I need to get started on real soon.

You know there's a crash and burn coming don't you?

Yeah that's right. I hit the office and checked my email to find yet another set of edits needing my attention. What really should be no big deal sent me back to bed to hide under the covers.

While edits and revisions are completely necessary to improve a writer's work, immersing yourself in all that is wrong with your writing for a solid month may not be the best of ideas.

Also, I find that for myself after a few weeks of not writing new material I start to get antsy. The plot bunnies are hopping mad and instead of focusing on the one or two ideas I have to develop, I end up with 20 annoying ideas that are of no use to the plotting I need to be getting done.

Ok, new plan. Still have to go to the post office, wrap the presents and maybe bake the cookies. Day job is a given. That get's worked no matter what. But when it comes to the writing the rest of this week is off limits to editing until midnight or later every night.

I deserve a break, we all deserve a break to enjoy this time with our family and friends. Not to mention my brain needs to remember that my writing doesn't suck.

So edits...You get an hour, hour and a half tops until after christmas. And I'm devoting an additional hour to plotting and/or writing something fresh and exciting. Something I love. (not including shower time, where I resolve many of my plot issues.) It's my gift to myself.

As for that missing christmas spirit... I'm going in search of the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas CD's right now. They are fun and upbeat and I love them. Music has a way of reenergizing me. You try listening to Boogie Woogie Christmas and not feel a little pep. lol Not gonna happen.

Phew.

Crisis diverted. Melt down cancelled.

Blurb boiling and spring break

I think I have come to the conclusion that Mondays are just not my day. Well and Thursdays too. lol

At the last minute I decided to enter the Nocturne Bites pitch contest and have spent the last several days preparing for that. To enter you had to send in a two paragraph blurb on your story by midnight tonight. (sent mine in about 5 minutes ago) From those entries they will choose five to participate in an online pitch session with an editor from the line. From that requests will be made. At least that's the hope.

It's amazing how we can stress over two little paragraphs. But when that blurb will determine whether an editor will pick it up for further consideration it becomes damned important. Same thing when we write them to hook a reader. As a reader myself, the cover and the blurb sell me the book. Sometimes i'll read an excerpt but more often than not it's the blurb that makes the final decision.

Right now i'm dying to post my blurb here and see if it generates your interest but I think I should wait the four days to find out if it gets picked to move on to the next round. So cross your fingers for me please.

On another note, it's Spring Break this week for my kids and I haz no spring. The sun and the heat teased me this weekend and now i'm freezing again. Mother Nature isn't playing fair. Until she gets her act together and brings me some warm weather i'll keep reminding myself that I leave for Orlando in two weeks. YAY!

And speaking of Orlando and the RT Convention, I finally settled on a design for my paranormal buttons. What do you think?

SEX is better over 40!

Yeah, that's my story and i'm sticking to it.

I was shopping over the weekend and got distracted by women's fashion magazines. Oh No! But one of the magazines that raved about 40 and how it's the new 20 caught my eye. Not that I want to be 20 again but hey I don't mind being reminded why 40 is so great. lol

So I found a list. Oh No! I know right?! But it's 10 reasons SEX is better over 40 and I couldn't resist posting it. So here goes:
